So You Didn’t Make The Happy Planner Squad – Now What?

This year was my third year for applying for The Happy Planner Squad; I didn’t make it. Again.

While I’m still sad about it, I’m not feeling nearly as emotional as I have the past few times I’ve tried. I let myself be sad, cried a little, but now it’s back to work. There are a lot of new and exciting things coming and I can’t let myself slack off.

Last year I wrote a blog post entitled, Why I’m Okay With Not Making The Happy Planner Squad which was a long stream of thought post. It’s absolutely not my best writing, but it was my honest and raw feelings at that time. I was incredibly disappointed, mad even, but I forced myself to sit down and write down the reasons why it was okay. I tried my best to remain positive and I feel as though it translated well for myself, as I find myself re-reading it a year later. This year I decided to write this post for anyone who might have applied and is feeling sad.

The decision process for this years Squad can NOT have been easy in any capacity. There was 1700+ applicants and the amount of talent coming through in those applications had to be overwhelming. I can’t imagine the conversations and the stress everyone had in choosing this year’s new team. There is a lot of emotions involved for all parties involved.

It’s okay to be sad, but don’t be bitter.

Dear planner, please take this particular statement to heart. It is 100% okay to be sad, be made, be extremely disappointed, but do not be bitter. I admit that the first time I applied this particular feeling ate away at me for months. I wasn’t in the best crowd and they further encouraged the bitter behavior, but I’m urging you now, dear reader, to not feel bitter. The decisions made are not a reflection on you in the least. You don’t know how far along in the process you made it. You could have been so incredibly close, but you don’t know!

Take your emotions and apply them to something you’re truly passionate about. Let your emotions be your guide. Take a walk, create, talk to someone you’re close to – let yourself have the feelings you need to feel.

Opportunity always awaits, often where we least expect it!

The Happy Planner Squad isn’t the end all or be all to the planner community. I never would have expected myself to try out for another team and succeed. If it weren’t for my love of The Happy Planner I wouldn’t have ever thought to try something else out and see if I could handle something like the Squad.

If you see a new opportunity, consider applying for it anyway! You never know what could happen!

Take the opportunity to find your own “squad.”

Nothing brings people together better than a shared experience. Remember, there’s around 1700+ other planners who also didn’t make it on The Happy Planner Squad! You are not alone. In fact, drop your Instagram name in the comments of this blog post if you applied! Maybe you’ll find your newest planner inspiration outside of the squad this way. 🙂 If you’re feeling up to it, make sure you leave a comment on that person’s most recent photo telling them what you love about their feed! Spread the positivity and love!

Play, explore, grow.

Experiment, practice, learn, ask for help – feel free to find the things that make your heart sing. Maybe you’ll find out you really love creating flat lay photos. Or maybe you’ll discover that lifestyle photos are your absolute favorite photos to take!

Find what makes you excited and ready to go. Who knows? Maybe this will be what gets you your spot next year!

The Happy Planner Squad will return – you have another chance!

The Happy Planner Squad shows absolutely no signs of slowing down and definitely isn’t going anywhere. In fact, consider this a new starting point for something even newer in the future! This is the first time they’re running the Squad with a completely brand new team PLUS a wider age range AND international participants. The fact that it’s opened up so much already means there’s the possibility of it being even bigger and better next year! OR possibly shorter terms to allow for more people in the future!

There are so many new things that can happen and you have a whole entire year to plan for it! Exciting!

The community will always be there for you.

If you need to take a break, by all means take a break. This is a very emotional time and sometimes you just need to take a step back.

The best part of everything? The community will always be there for you.

At the end of the day sometimes it’s okay to not be okay. But seriously, please do not let it eat away at you because it’s not a fun feeling to have. Be excited, be happy, and know there’s always more opportunity out there. This is a time of change for everyone and it is the perfect time to try something new!

While I can’t offer much just now, I do offer my support. I also offer you this graphic that you can print and use in your planner or just post wherever you feel like someone needs a boost. You can resize the graphic to create a diecut, use it as a journaling card, or even create a sticker! If you’re on a computer, just right click and and hit “save image as.” If you’re on a phone, you can either long press the graphic and swipe up or take a screenshot! I just ask that you don’t remove the link to my website. 🙂

The Happy Planner Squad is a group of social media influencers that help create content for The Happy Planner. 🙂 They’re more commonly known as “design teams” but due to A LOT of people believing the team designed the products they changed the name.

I applied this year as a way if pushing myself out of my comfort zone, knowing full well that I was unlikely to make it this year, and I didn’t. But I’m still okay and I’m still planning. I’m excited to see what the Squad does this year and to learn and grow and try again. My Insta is themalachitelady if anyone wants to pop in and say hi. 😊

I wasn’t one of the lucky 20 either. I’m a newbie and didn’t think I’d make it but I’m still disappointed. But I will grow, improve and apply again next year. My insta is beckolans!
