My One Little Word for 2018

One Little Word

It is New Year’s Eve and I find myself sitting and reflecting on the past 365 days. This year has been different, to say the least. A lot has changed in a very short span of time, but most of this year has set the tone for 2018. While I have a few regrets from the past year, it has taught me to take the time to learn and educate myself. My ventures for 2018 will prove to be more fruitful than 2017 and for that I am very grateful. For the first time, in both my creative pursuits and personal life, I am joining in on One Little Word. My word for 2018 is “progress.”

One Little Word

Both definitions of the word progress are very fitting for the journey I want 2018 to become. A lot of my life has remained stagnant and I want that to change. I have remained held in place by the same situation for years. 2017 set the ground work for that all to finally change and move forward. While the journey, thus far, has proven a lot more difficult than expected, it’s been welcome.

Every day has served to teach me a new lesson. I have discovered my strengths and have learned my flaws. I have spent time reacquainting myself with a person I had long since forgotten. This year I am learning who I am as a woman, a daughter, as a sister, and a future wife. For the first time, I am learning who I am as a budding entrepreneur and as someone who is putting forth the desire to pursue my dreams. Not everyone finds the drive to move forward in their dreams and mine have just been far too small. 2018 is the year that I shoot for the stars and aim past the moon.

There will be changes along the way, there will be a lot of heartbreak, but there will be joy. There will be excitement and laughter and humility. There will be progress.

So many years have been wasted due to others telling me that my dreams are unattainable, that they’re a waste. I have been told that my dreams are foolish and that no one will support them. I have been met with obstacles that I have been too scared to overcome. 2018 is the year that I finally take things back into my own hands. I will no longer worry or fear what people think of me and know that as long as I remain myself, I will find others.

I thank each person who has come across my path who has brought me to this point today and to the person I am. You have all provided different lessons and have led me to having the desire to create the best year yet.

Will you join me?
